Boost your confidence as a performer and creative artist by channelling your heroes.

We are all multi faceted complex human beings, in our daily lives, in our various roles and relationships, and as artists, we often have a conflict going on between those confident extrovert parts of ourselves that just want to sing and for our voices to be heard, and those anxious introvert parts of ourselves that hesitate and can sabotage our own creative voice and efforts! Self development experts will tell you to boost your confidence by decreasing those habits that make you feel bad about yourself, and increasing those habits that make you feel good about yourself. Which seems so simple and makes perfect sense! We become what we think about and look upon, and really can choose and design who we want to be in life, and on stage, and in our creative process. But of course personal development takes time and patience and is a never ending journey, so how can we inject a quick confidence boost into our stage presence and creative process right now? One way that artists overcome the complex and deep struggles with self that go on in the creative process (and in life) is to channel an inspiring muse hero or alter ego. Beyonce’s alter ego “Sasha Fierce” being one of my favourite examples of an artist publicly expressing her confident side, while keeping other aspects of her private self, just that.

So why not put on the costume, become the character, and channel your heroes? Notice how different you feel when you wear the hat, take on the role and play the part. Wearing a mask of sorts is so important to some people that they never leave the house without make up, or their designer trainers on. The term war paint comes to mind (the war with in ourselves!)
